Spirited Waters

in Books I am Reading

Spirited WatersThis book with the subtitle  Soloing South through the Inside Passage spins the first person tale of Jennifer Hahn, an intrepid skilled canoeist / kayaker.   She paddles a 750 mile stretch of the Pacific coast from Bellingham, Washington to Ketchikan, Alaska and tells her story in amazing prose.  Where do all those images come from?  How do those words that are just right develop from what she sees, hears, tastes, smells and feels?  How can I learn to write like that?   My copy of the book came as a gift purchased in Calumet, Michigan where one of Ms. Hahn’s relatives sings here praises.    Spirited Waters is full of adventure for every paddler (like me) or enterprising berry picker (like … you?).
