in Books I am Reading, Interests

Moonwalking with EinsteinMoonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything (by Joshua Foer) tells the story of how a journalist got so interested in a contest amongst “mental athletes” that he spent a hard year’s work on becoming not just one of them, but THE United States Memory Champion.  I have been long interested in memory as a student of educational psychology and remember early on learning about Greek orators and their strategies for holding many things in mind for recall.  Foer develops this idea fully and shows its practical contemporary uses.

I am so jealous of this guy, Joshua Foer.  He is not  thirty years old and has not only this best-selling book, but raving reviews and big time speaking engagements.  Could he be the embodiment of the ultimate investigative journalist:  walking that walk while telling the tale, and becoming it?
